British Salt Boiler Project Moves Closer to Completion

Work on the new £7.2m British Salt boiler plant facility is progressing well at the Middlewich site, as this impressive photo sequence shows, with project completion and boiler commissioning on course for late Spring this year.

The new British Salt boiler plant represents the largest single investment in the company since it began back in 1969 and this state-of-the art, world-class facility will make an important contribution to its success in years to come.

The installation of the boilers will help to future-proof the Middlewich site, ensuring increased operational reliability & efficiency and a lower carbon footprint.  They will also produce under half the NOx emissions of their predecessors.

Manufactured in Spain, the new British Salt boiler assemblies are over 18m long, 6.2m wide and 4.5 m high – and weigh in at a hefty 90 tonnes each! Following their arrival by police escort in Middlewich in November 2019, the boilers are now in position – prior to installation and commissioning – in the purpose-built British Salt boiler house that’s now in the advanced stages of construction.

Progress on the site works is clear for all to see and the project team is now managing essential steel work, pipe work installation and cabling.
