As 2019 draws to a close, we look back on what has been a ‘golden’ year for British Salt as we announced major investment in future-proofing our Middlewich HQ and also engaged in a vibrant calendar of 50th anniversary celebrations to mark our special company milestone!
We got the year off to a great start as in Q1 we unveiled a series of ground-breaking projects in our 50th anniversary year, including a £7.2m investment in a new, best-in-class energy efficient boiler plant at our Middlewich site, designed to generate heat and electricity for the company’s 24-hour production process. The new boiler plant represents the largest single investment in the company since its inception. Scheduled to become operational in spring 2020 it will be key to the success of a secure energy supply for British Salt.
In June we received a Royal visit to remember from HRH The Duke of Kent, who joined local dignitaries, school children, directors, current and former employees of British Salt to celebrate the company’s anniversary and to officially open the £600,000 new automated packing line recently installed at the Middlewich site.
The Duke was greeted by Lord Lieutenant, David Briggs and directors of our company. The party then took a tour of the site, culminating in the official opening of the new high-speed packing line.
Following the official Royal tour, British Salt hosted a community-spirited afternoon tea, where the Duke met several current British Salt employees including: apprentices, pupils from local primary schools, representatives from local charities, local dignitaries such as the Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire, the management of British Salt and directors of parent company, Tata Chemicals Europe.
In September colleagues from across TCE and British Salt celebrated the landmark 50th anniversary with a fabulous Family Fun Day held at our Middlewich location. A brilliant, fun-filled day was had by all and popular attractions included: Live music, a marvellous magic show, a hearty BBQ and family activities such as wellie wanging, slime making and a bucking bronco! St Luke’s Hospice also brought along their big red bus to the event for everyone to enjoy.
Commenting on the event, MD Martin Ashcroft said:
‘’Our Family Fun Day was the latest company celebration of British Salt’s 50th anniversary. Employees from all of our sites were invited to bring their partners and children along to British Salt in Middlewich for an enjoyable afternoon of family games, food and fun.”
